The Resident Engineer’s office building (Old building) was established in 1950, which is the first office and first building in the history of National Institute of Technology Karnataka(NITK) Surathkal. The Resident Engineer office of NITK Surathkal is responsible for construction and maintenance of buildings( Academic, Residential, Hostel, Guest House, Student Activity Centers, schools, campus commercial complex),Water Supply System, Roads, Gardens, Electrical Supply and Installations Including Diesel Generators Sets, Institute Vehicles, Sports Ground, Waste Disposal Management, Sport Facilities and Swimming Pools. The Resident Engineer Office prepares the proposals and work estimates and execute the work based on departments/centers/hostels/residential requirements of the institute. The Resident Engineer unit is headed by the Resident Engineer (RE) and supported by Assistant Engineers SG-II ( Civil & Electrical), Assistant Engineer/Graduate Engineer, Junior Engineer, Diploma Engineers, Office Superintendent and Clerical Staffs/Assistants, Garden Work Supervisor, Electricians, Plumbers, Drivers, Gardeners, Helpers and Other Temporary Staff. Total Strength of the Employees at present 100 staffs( Both Permanent and Temporary).
